The Union Public Service Commission will hold the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2011 on 17th April, 2011 for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force Wings of NDA for 127th course and for the 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from 30th December, 2011

Conditions of eligibility

Age limits, sex and marital status: Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1993 and not later than 1st July, 1995 are eligible

Educational qualifications

For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: 12th class pass of 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university
For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 cadet entry scheme of the Indian Naval Academy: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics, conducted by a state education board or a university
Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class under 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination
Physical standards: Candidate must be physically fit according to the physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2011 as given in appendix-V of commission’s notice for the examination published in employment news/rozgar samachar dated 16th October, 2010
How to apply: Candidates may apply online using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in, detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the abovementioned website
Candidates may also apply offline in the common application form devised by the commission for its examinations which can be purchased from the designated head post offices/post offices (specified in appendix-III of the notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20/- (Rs twenty only). Each such form can be used only once and only for one examination

The centres and the date of holding the examination as mentioned above are liable to be changed at the discretion of the commission. While every effort will be made to allot the candidates to the centre of their choice for examination, the commission may, at their discretion, allot a different centre to a candidate, when circumstances so warrant. Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place or places of examination.
Candidates should note that no request for change of centre will normally be granted. When a candidate, however, desires a change in centre from the one he had indicated in his application form for the examination, he must send a letter addressed to the secretary, UPSC, giving full justification as to why he desires a change in centre. Such requests will be considered on merits but requests received after 19th May, 2010 will not be entertained under any circumstances

Scheme of NDA Entrance Examination

2. The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only. The question papers (Test Booklets) OF MATHEMATICS AND PART "b" OF GENERAL ABILITY TESTS WILL BE SET BILINGUALLY IN HINDI AS WELL AS  English.
3. In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving the metric system of Weights and Measures only will be set.
4. Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to write answers for them.
5. The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects at the examination.
6. The candidates are not permitted to use calculator or Mathematical or logirithmic table for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.
Announcement of the Results of NDA (II) Written Examination, Interview of qualified candidates, announcement of final results and admission to the training courses of the finally qualified candidates :
The Union Public Service Commission shall prepare a list of candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as fixed by the Commission in their discretion. Such candidates shall appear before a Services Selection Board for intelligence and Personality Test where candidates for the Army/Navy wings of the NDA and 10+2 Executive branch of Naval Academy will be assessed on officers potentiality and those for the Air Force in Pilot Aptitude Test and for officers potentiality.  
TWO STAGE SELECTION PROCEDURE
       Two stage selection procedure based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test has been introduced at Selection Centres/Air Force Selection Boards.  All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres/Air Force Selection Boards.  Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests.  Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of : (i) original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth; (ii) Original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification.
Candidates who appear before the Services Selection Board and undergo the test there will do so at their own risk and will not be entitled to claim any compensation or other relief from Government in respect of any injury which they may sustain in the course of or as a result of any of the tests given to them at the Services Selection Board whether due to the negligence of any person or otherwise. Parents or guardians of the candidates will be required to sign a certificate to this effect.
To be acceptable, candidates for the Army/Navy and Naval Academy should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in (i) Written examination and (ii) Officer potentiality test, as fixed by the Commission in their discretion, and candidates for the Air Force should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in (i) Written examination (ii) Officer potentiality test, and (iii) Pilot Aptitude Test as fixed by the Commission in their discretion.
Subject to these conditions the qualified candidates will then be placed in the final order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the Written examination, and the Services Selection Board Tests in three separate lists-one for the Army and the Navy, the second one for the Air Force and the third for the Course at the Naval Academy. The names of candidates who qualify for all the Services of NDA and the Naval Academy will appear in all the three Merit Lists. The final selection for admission to the Army and Naval Wings of the National Defence Academy will be made in order of merit upto the number of vacancies available from the merit list for the Army and Naval Wings, for the Air Force Wing from  the merit list for the Air Force; and for the Executive Branch of Naval Academy upto the number of vacancies available from the merit list for the Naval Academy, subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects. The candidates who are common to all the three merit lists will be considered for selection from all the three lists with reference to their order of preferences and in the event of their final selection from one list, names will be cancelled from the other lists.
N.B. : Every candidate for the Air Force is given Pilot Aptitude Test only once. The Grade secured by him at the first test will there-fore hold good for every subsequent interview he has with the  Air Force Selection Board. A candidate who fails in the first Pilot Aptitude Test cannot apply for admission to the National Defence Academy Examination for the Air Force wing or General Duties (Pilot) Branch or Naval Air Arm.
Candidates who have been given the Pilot Aptitude Test for any previous N.D.A. course should submit their application for this examination for the Air Force Wing only if they have been notified as having qualified in the Pilot Aptitude Test.
The form and manner of communication of the result of the examination to individual candidates shall be decided by the Commission at their discretion and the Commission will not enter into correspondence with them regarding the result.
Success in the examination confers no right of admission to the Academy. A candidate must satisfy the appointing authority that he is suitable in all respects for admission to the Academy.

Candidates to ensure their eligibility for the examination: The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions
Mere issue of admission certificate to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the commission
Commission take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for interview/personality test

How to apply: Candidates are required to apply online only by using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in. Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website. However candidates residing in certain remote areas may also apply through offline mode, by using the common application form being used for examinations conducted by the commission. This form can be purchased from the designated head post offices/post offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20/- (Rs twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination. Recruitment on the results of this examination will be made to the services/posts under the following categories

The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 745 including 50 PH vacancies
The number of vacancies is liable to alteration
Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the govt of India
Eligibility conditions
Nationality: A candidate must be either (a) a citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the govt of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued by the govt of India
Age limits: A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August, 2011 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1981 and not later than 1st August, 1990
The period of apprenticeship if followed by appointment against a working posts on the Railways may be treated as Railway Service for the purpose of age concession
The upper age limit prescribed above will be further relaxable; up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a SC/ST; upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to OBC who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates; upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the state of J&K during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st December, 1989; upto a maximum of three years in the case of defence service personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area, and released as a consequence thereof; upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs; upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and orthopaedically handicapped persons
Minimum educational qualification: For admission to the examination, a candidate must have; (a) obtained a degree in engineering from a university incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational Institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities u/S 3 of the UGC Act, 1956; or (b) passed sections A and B of the Institution examinations of the Institution of engineers (India); or (c) obtained a degree/diploma in engineering from such foreign University/College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognized by the govt for the purpose from time to time, or (d) passed graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or (e) passed associate membership examination parts II and III/sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or (f) passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959
Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Engineer, Gr 'A' in Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing/Monitoring Organization may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned namely; M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject
A candidate who has appeared at an examination the passing of which would render him educationally qualified for this examination, but has not been informed of the result, may apply for admission to the examination. A candidate who intends to appear at such a qualifying examination may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the examination, if otherwise eligible, but their admission would be deemed to be provisional and subject to cancellation, if they do not produce proof of having passed the requisite qualifying examination along with the detailed application form which will be required to be submitted by the candidates who qualify on the result of written part of the examination
In exceptional cases, the commission may treat a candidate, who has not any of the qualifications prescribed in this rule, as educationally qualified provided that he/she has passed examinations conducted by other institutions the standard of which in the opinion of the commission justifies his/her admission to the examination
A candidate who is otherwise qualified but who has taken a degree from a foreign University which is not recognized by govt, may also apply to the commission and may be admitted to the examination at the discretion of the commission
Fee: Candidates applying online (excepting SC/ST/Female/PH candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs 50/- (Rs fifty only) either by remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master credit/debit card
Candidates residing in remote areas, who may apply offline also (through common application form) are required to pay a fee of Rs 100/- (Rs one hundred only) through a single central recruitment fee stamp of the requisite denomination. Central recruitment fee stamp (not postage stamp) must be obtained from the post office and affixed on the application form in the space provided therein. The stamp may be got cancelled from the issuing post office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the application form itself but within the space provided on the form. The impression of the cancellation mark should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the post office of issue
All female candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH categories are exempted from payment of fee. No fee exemption is, however, available to OBC candidates and they are required to pay the prescribed fee in full
Applications not accompanied by the prescribed fee (unless remission of fee is claimed) shall be summarily rejected. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection
If any candidate who took the Engineering Services Examination held in 2010 wishes to apply for admission to this examination, he/she must submit his/her application so as to reach the commission’s office by the prescribed date without waiting for the results or an offer of appointment

1.Paper presentation:
  • Maximum of 2 authors per paper
  • Candidates should send their paper in soft copy to excapade11@gmail.com and also 2 hard copies with the CD to the address mentioned on or before 20 jan 2011.
  • Spot entries are not allowed.
  • Accepted papers will be intimated through their respective mail.id on or before 24.01.11.
  • The presentation time is for 8 mins and queries for 2 mins for each paper.
  • Selected candidates should bring their identity card at the time of presentation.
  • Selected candidates should bring two hard copies and one soft copy of the paper at the time of presentation (MS Office 2003, 2007 format).
2.Project presentation
  • Maximum of 4 persons in a team

  • Problem related with industry will be given.

Abacus ’11 – Symposium – CSE – Jan 28 – 29 – College of Engineering – Guindy

Abacus ’11 is a flagship event of the Department Of Computer Science and Engineering hosted by College of Engineering Guindy,Anna University, Many online events and onsite events of various kinds has been planned for all participants. The onsite events are to be conducted in January 28th and 29th.Students from all colleges are welcome to participate in the events. Visit www.abacus.org.in for updates on the events. A short Description of some of the events has been posted below. Workshops and few more events will be added in near future.
ONLINE EVENTS:
  • Code Arena: Online programming contest. The contest will be organized in SPOJ website.
  • ‘I’mage: Poster design contest. Photoshop must be used as the tool.
  • Animate: Virtual reality. The participants will have to design an animated scene for the scenario given (using likes of 3D Studio Max ).
  • Mobila Mobila: The participants will have to design a mobile application for the given theme/problem statement.
  • Gaming unplugged: This is a game design event. The participants will have to mail design and send their game executables.
  • Multilingua: The participants write polyglots (a computer program or script written in a valid form of multiple programming languages, which performs the same operations or output independently of the programming language used to compile or interpret it.) for the problems given.
  • Haiku: The name says it all. For the problem(s) given, the solution program must be as short as possible (in terms of no of characters n lines)
  • Tech hunt/Hacking: Participants will have to use the clues, solve riddles n advance to the next level. Certain rounds could involve hacking also. )
ONSITE EVENTS:
  • Tech talk: Paper presentation. Participants must submit papers based on the specified topics.

  • Onsite Programming Contest and Code obfuscation: Programming contest involving algorithms n stuff. There will be a round for Code obfuscation too.
  • Network Warriors: All you need is basic understanding of Computer Networks and underlying principles with some exposure to Linux commands and programming. (Finals may be a programming round)
  • CompuWar: CompuWar tests your understanding of fundamental computer science subjects like Operating Systems, DBMS, Computer Architecture, Networking, Data Structures and Algorithms, Programming in C/C++, Automata, and Compilers.
  • DBMania: Event for database lovers.
  • Gamindrome: Compete in LAN  Games to beat others ( Counterstrike , FIFA , NFS etc)
  • Debugging: Spot the bug(s) n rectify the program.
  • Biz Quiz: Business quiz.

  • Math programming + cryptography: This event will require participants to solve mathematical problems in cryptography.
  • CracktheOak: Java Programming event.
